Buy wood and endstone, first put down the endstone and then wood, after you get ur first rush get traps, its a good def in all game modes

Bed def is a worthless thing.
They won't help u so much in solos and dous u should go with wool or wood and in 4s and 3s u can use wood and endstone

I usually just put wool around the bed and that's it. I know it is not the best protection. I prefer a psychology of "attack is the best defense". I start by building 8 wool blocks around the bed, and then I start putting 18 more blocks in a pyramid shape on it. You can also exchange the first 8 wool blocks with clay to make it TNT proof. You can build this type of bed protection in seconds and then move on to attack the enemy.

Obsidian is obviously the best but I usually don't even defend the bed.

getting a bow and arrow at starting of the game may be a solid (expect they don't use Enderpearl ) .
