Wireless Hoppers
Description:
Currently, SBD has three kinds of hoppers: Normal Hoppers, Crop Hoppers, and Mob Hoppers.
- Normal Hoppers: Your default vanilla hoppers
- Crop Hoppers: Hoppers that will automatically pick up "crop" items (netherwart, cactus, etc.) within a chunk.
- Mob Hoppers: Hoppers that will automatically pick up "mob loot" within a chunk.
The two custom hoppers we currently have offer a significant improvement to QOL (quality of life) by allowing instant collection of certain drops. One issue these hoppers do not solve, however, is item transportation. Once your hopper collects an item, it requires a massive transportation network to move it to chests. And, if you have multiple chunks worth of farms, simply making a collection system that funnels everything into a central chest can require massive amounts of hoppers (and island upgrades).
Wireless Hoppers (tentative price $75k) would remove the need for massive hopper chains by allowing players to 'link' hoppers from a distance. Once linked successfully, any items that enter the Wireless Hopper will be transported directly into the hopper it is linked to.
A Wireless Hopper will function in this manner:
- A Wireless Hopper will search for a normal hopper within an 8 block long line, in the direction of its funnel (the lower half of the hopper). Placing the hopper will also display a chat message to the player depending on what it finds.
- If the Wireless Hopper finds a normal hopper within this radius, the player will receive a message saying "Wireless: Hopper Linked".
- If the Wireless Hopper does not find a normal hopper within this radius, the player will receive a message saying "Wireless: No hoppers found".
- If there is more than one hopper in a straight line, the Wireless Hopper will only link to the one it is closest to. The player will receive a message saying "Wireless: Hopper Linked".
- Multiple Wireless Hoppers can link to a single hopper.
Restrictions:
- Placing a hopper inside the Wireless Hopper's range will cancel the signal, unlinking both hoppers. (Developers can change this interaction).
- Placing a block between a Wireless Hopper and its linked hopper will cancel the signal, unlinking both hoppers. (Developers can change this interaction).
- Wireless Hoppers cannot link to each other. (Developers can change this interaction.)

How can this idea help to improve JartexNetwork?
By implementing "Wireless Hoppers", players will have an easier time creating farms and linking collection/storage systems. Moreover, having less hoppers will mean players won't be required to spend their shards on the "hopper limit" island upgrade, and would also help lower island lag caused by hoppers.
