Why did my PROTECTED chest plate break?

I got a fire-resistance enchantment book (which gives fire resistance when an armour piece with it is put on). I had a protected diamond chest plate which had shockwave, molten and port 2. Then why did it break when I tried to apply the book of fire resistance to my chest plate??

if a custom enchantment have more destroying rate (in red colour ) as compare to success rate (in green colour ) then it has chance to get destroyed destroyed or get safe (a very low chance , that an item survive )

Solution
Use Luck X , Life boom and purchase fixing dust or just make by custom enchantment by /tinkerer them . or Apply white scrool (which will protect your item getting destroyed ) i will not recomend white scroll if you are poor or if you are able to buy put it on your max or most good item

Thanks, but when I applied 3 custom enchantments (all were successful), my PROTECTED disappeared, does white scroll has a limit of 3 enchantments?

I think hes had the white scroll on the chestplate
means it will not break ONCE on a custom enchant
If it's an immortal scroll and it will last FOREVER
and never breaks from a custom enchant

Immortal scroll cannot be applied on armor, It can only be applied on tools And weapons.
