What do skyblock shards do?

Hey so I am a skyblock noob on jartex and I want to know what do skyblock shards do?

Skyblock shards do, is go to /is command and click the Nether Star or Island Perks, and u can upgrade any perks for ur island. You can get an Island shards from Doing ur Island Mission.
