Welcome to my performance guide. I will be showing you the best way to increase performance for Minecraft and other games. (Note this is for Windows users only)
Before you do any of these steps, make a restore point as it could save your whole machine, not all machines are perfect some may run into bugs and some might work perfectly fine. To set up a restore point scroll down to "Step 3" and read the red warning thank you.

- Bios Update:
First of all, what does "BIOS" even mean? BIOS an acronym for Basic Input/Output System and also known as the System BIOS, ROM BIOS or PC BIOS) is firmware used to perform hardware initialization during the booting process (power-on startup), and to provide runtime services for operating systems and programs.
Every BIOS is different depending on the manufacturer, I will not tell you how to install motherboard updates, please search up your motherboards name and search how to update them to ensure it is does correctly.
This is how you check what motherboard you have (The exact serial number to search up) follow these steps: Click the windows button on your keyboard and search "System Information" and open that program. Now you will notice something called "Find what" at the bottom of your screen.
Search up in the white box "BaseBoard product" and click on find next and that is how to find the exact model of your motherboard.
For Dell Users search up "(Your motherboard product code) motherboard BIOS" and the first thing that comes up should look like this. Download the Program and run it, your PC will restart and enter the BIOS. (If it asks you to update anything in the BIOS accept it, after that's done its you might wanna go to your boot settings and boot into your Hard Drive or Solid State Drive. (Sometimes it will just boot you into Windows and sometimes it will require you to manually select the drive.) Hence why I left this warning below
Warning: If you do not know what your doing stop from now. (By that if you have never installed Windows using BIOS or never went threw the BIOS settings then please avoid this step at all costs. As messing up could cause big issues.) - Updating Drivers:
You want to ensure that your "CPU" Drivers and "GPU" Drivers are updated for the best performance and security. To do so you first need to find out what GPU and CPU you have. Follow my lead, first of all open the program "Device Manager" on your computer. (Just windows button and search Device Manager) Click on "Display adapters"
If its Intel just right click on the highlighted in blue and click on "Update Driver" and select "Search Automatically for updated driver software", if it says "The best drivers have been already installed for you" that means your CPU drivers are up to date. (Some CPU's come with integrated graphics) It's recommended to install GPU drivers from the original websites if not Intel.
If you have an AMD CPU/GPU or NVIDIA GPU's install them from the website. AMD Drivers Click on "Download Now". NVIDIA Drivers These two will automatically detect what GPU you have. (Install them, they should automatically install them for you.)
Note: If you do not have "Nvidia or AMD GPU/CPU's don't follow the installing part for "AMD DRIVERS AND NVIDIA DRIVERS" Just do the "Device Manager steps" - WINDOWS SETTINGS / REMOVING BLOATWARE:
Changing Windows settings can increase performance.
Bloatware, if you don't know is on all systems meaning they start off slower than they should be, clogged with unnecessary preloaded softwares. Known as bloatware (or a number of less complimentary terms) this software comes in many different forms. Most bloatware isn't dangerous, but it can slow down your system and take up space on your hard drive.
I will be linking you to two videos that will teach you how to change Windows Settings and remove BLOATWARE for better Performance.
Windows Settings and Windows Debloating
Warning: If you do follow these steps, make a restore point as Removing Bloatware can cause issues. (I had 0 issues for me) DO THIS ON YOUR OWN RISK. (Tutorial to make a restore point, in case you do run into problems this will help you revert the changes you've done.)
Restore Point Tutorial (To use the restore point after setting it up, click on "System Restore and select the restore point you have made." - Advanced SystemCare 13:
Honestly one of the best programs out there for optimizing your Windows machine, it optimizes your system, removes unnecessary files like in %temp% , useless shortcuts, and removes browser cookies that slow down your PC.
More interesting features if your curious what else this program does: "Disk Optimization, Vulnerability Fix, Registry Defrag, Registry Clean, Startup Optimization, Privacy Sweep, Internet Boost, Shortcut fix, Spyware Removal, Security Reinforce."
Link to installing it: Here (It's like CCleaner if you have heard of it)
Here is a product key to activate it: 6CDEC-2EA3E-55838-D6044 (Product key from my friend) - Discord Hardware Acceleration:
This next step is actually a fairly unknown process in which not a lot of people know about, you wouldn't think it, but there is a setting which is automatically enabled inside of the program "Discord" which hogs GPU usage and priority resulting in less performance being used inside of your game.
The setting is called "Hardware Acceleration". The setting enables discord to use more of your GPU power to allow discord to be more smooth, discord is a app for talking to friends, you don't need this setting enabled as it hardly makes a difference between how smooth it is.
Before and after this setting was enabled I couldn't tell that discord was smoother when it was enabled. But what I did notice is I had a lot less hitches and FPS drops inside of my game.
Now, how to disable it? To disable this option click the settings button in the bottom left of discord (Next to your name and profile picture). Navigate to "APP SETTINGS" from there go to -> Appearance -> Advanced -> Hardware Acceleration -> Tick it off (so the button is grey).
Note: Short summary of the following, turning off "Hardware Acceleration" will stop your PC from using your GPU, instead uses your CPU. (Minecraft uses more GPU than CPU which is better for more Frames per second.) - Disable Game-mode on Windows and Updating Windows:
Some of you may or may not know that game mode (an option inside of windows 10) actually reduces performance, I know it sounds stupid, because it actually is, but its the truth. You can Google about it.
To disable game-mode search "Game Mode Settings" in your windows search bar and tick it so it is set to "Off".
To update windows: Search "Check for updates" open it and check if there are any new updates make sure to apply them as it could help with security and performance.
- Overclocking:
Overclocking helps with boosting slight performance, this video shows you simple steps for the best overclock settings (For your system)
THE BIGGEST ISSUE WITH OVERCLOCKING IS THE REDUCTION IN A COMPONENT'S LIFESPAN. YOU CAN OVERCLOCK A CPU, GPU, MOTHERBOARD OR RAM, BUT SENDING INCREASED VOLTS GRADUALLY DAMAGES THESE COMPONENTS. DAMAGE IS CAUSED BY HEAT GENERATED FROM INCREASED POWER!
Now, if that didn't scare you away lets continue; Follow this video, and do not ignore any thing the person says. Click here for video
Warning: DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK, THE VIDEO IS FOLLOWING EXTREMELY SAFE GUIDELINES IN WHICH YOU SHOULD FOLLOW FOR THE BEST RESULTS BUT IF YOU MESS UP OR SOMETHING GOES WRONG I AM NOT ACCOUNTABLE.
- Minecraft Settings and Mods:
Now, for forge players, use Optifine. (Which you can find here) I also recommend using Betterfps mod which helps quite a lot (1.8.9-1.12.2 scroll down the page to find the downloads)
Now for players that do have premium accounts, there are three well known side mod clients that are allowed on Jartex and that I highly recommend.
Lunar Client Download
Badlion Client Download
For in game settings, follow this tutorial for 1.8.9 players, and for 1.14.4 players.
Also I'd like to mention that its extremely important to add more ram to your Minecraft as it makes your game more stable, if your a Youtuber that records often I recommend putting half of what you put normally into Minecraft. (For example: Lets say I put 4GB into Minecraft, if you are gonna record put two instead.)
Tutorial to how to add more memory into Minecraft.
- Windows Power Plan/Settings (For PC and Laptop Users):
Please note for laptop users, I wouldn't recommend this as it takes more power for performance (If you use laptops without charging it/Studying etc.)
If you don't use your laptop outside your house etc, then feel free to apply the following steps.
Search "CMD" in your search bar make sure to right click it and run it as administrator, and then copy paste this into the Command prompt / CMD "powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61" and press enter (If you can't paste it onto the CMD here is a quick little demonstration what to do if your stuck; Control C = Copy Control V = Paste) After doing that close CMD and search "Choose a power plan"
After doing so open "Choose a power plan" and you should come to this page that's shown below.
Click on the "Hide additional plans" and select "Ultimate Performance". (Select Ultimate Performance FOR INTEL)
For RYZEN cpu's you should see "AMD Ryzen High Performance" and "AMD Ryzen Balanced" Select AMD Ryzen High Performance, if you do not see this its because you did not properly install your chipset (CPU drivers).
- GPU Settings (Only for NVIDIA and AMD):
NVIDIA CONTROL PANNEL : The NVIDIA Control Panel is a modest selection of checkboxes, sliders and dropdown menus but, it is the key to getting the most out of your GeForce graphics card. A few tweaks here and there can make any game sharper, clearer and smoother.
AMD RADEON SOFTWARE : AMD Radeon Software is a device driver and utility software package for Advanced Micro Devices's graphics cards and APUs.
If you have an NVIDIA GPU you will want to download, install and open NVIDIA CONTROL PANNEL.
If you have an AMD GPU you will want to download AMD RADEON SOFTWARE.
