Why do a reset for an update though, all of our progress will be lost, Can you make it such that this update takes place but there is no reset?

Hey guys, I just wanna ask why do resets take place? I mean players are losing all their stuff and their islands which they worked hard on. Then this reset just kills everyone's hardwork like its nothing. I am a new player so I just wanted some clarification on that. Thanks
