i am very new to the game and i saw in the chat that i finished a "quest" and received an island crystal what is an island crystal and how do i redeem the rewards

The points you get from completing any kind of challenges goes to your island, which helps on getting shards that help you unlock cool features for you and your island.

I think your pertaining to the island shards which u can use to upgrades your island perks like expanding the size of your island, increasing member capacity, hoppers limit and island homes. do /is then click the Island perks. Hope this answer your question.
