You probably clicked on this thread and wanted to know every possible way on how you can achieve better framerate, and have your game run a lot more smoothly. Just follow these steps below, and it might help you.

--------

1 - Install a PvP resource pack
There's tons and tons of resource packs to choose from that help you get better performance. A lot of people still refuse to believe that they actually help since the way they're advertised doesn't seem genuine. But, if you give one a try, I promise It'll be worth it. The point of them is to simplify block textures and menus which means that the game doesn't have to render a heavy load all the time, resulting in better overall performance.

2 - Play on version 1.8.9
1.8.9 is the best version to play Minecraft on if singleplayer isn't your thing. Since it's an older version, servers are more compatible and run a lot better than newer versions.

3 -
Use OptiFine
OptiFine is an optimization mod for Minecraft that unlocks more features inside the game for both better looks, and better performance.

4 -
Change crucial options in Video Settings
Once you've gotten OptiFine, you should open up Minecraft and head over to Options, then Video Settings. Now, set the toggles based on the information written below. Blue text is what the option is called, green text is what you should set the option on, and yellow text is a description for the option which makes you decide on what to set it as.

>
Graphics: Fast
It gets rid of transparency in blocks, making them opaque. This shouldn't matter that much if looks aren't your thing.
> Render Distance: 2-12
The higher you set this as, the farther you're able to see in-game. This means that the system has to push in a lot more power, and makes your game extremely laggy. For low-end machines, set it between 2-4. For medium-end machines, set it between 6-8. And for high-end machines, set it between 8-12.
> Smooth Lighting: OFF
Smooth Lighting is a shadow-effect that's created producing a cleaner overlay. It can achieve better looks, but affects FPS drastically.
> Max Framerate: (depends)
Set this to Unlimited if you want the highest FPS possible. This does try to push a lot more memory to run smooth at all times, so setting it to your default monitor framerate helps as well. Most people have a 60hz monitor, so limiting the framerate to that number not only helps manage everything better, but also keeps your game running fairly smooth. If you don't care about high memory-usage and overheating of your machine, but want to achieve the highest possible frames, then set it to Unlimited.
> Smooth Lighting Level: OFF
This is the intensity of shadows described above. Turn it off.
> View Bobbing: OFF
This is the hand animation that shows up when sprinting in-game. Turn it off.
> GUI Scale: (no effect)
This changes the size of menus/user-interfaces inside of Minecraft. Set this to whatever suits you the best. It does nothing to the performance.
> Use VBOs: ON
Turn it on since it has better management for rendering in-game.
> Brightness: (no effect)
This slider is how bright you want your game to look. This is also all personal-preference and does nothing to the performance.
> Alternate Blocks: OFF
This doesn't do a whole lot, but is best if kept off.
> Dynamic Lights: OFF
This is a visual-effect created near light-emitting blocks for better looks. Turn it off.
> Dynamic FOV: (no effect)
This is completely up to you, most people keep it on for an indicator to know if they're sprinting in-game or not, so turn it on. It does nothing to the performance though.
> Shaders: OFF
Pretty self-explanatory. Keep it off, you don't need to have it on for any reason.
> Quality: (everything off)
On this page, you should toggle every option off and slide every bar to the lowest point. Keeping it on is all for looks, and will ruin your framerate if kept that way.
> Details: (copy everything below except Show Capes since it's personal-preference)
Clouds: OFF
Trees: Fast
Sky: OFF
Sun & Moon: OFF
Fog: OFF
Translucent Blocks: Fast
Dropped Items: Fast
Swamp Colors: OFF
Vignette: Fast
Cloud Height: OFF
Rain & Snow: OFF
Stars: OFF
Show Capes: (personal-preference)
Fog Start: 0.8
Held Item Tooltips: ON
Entity Shadows: OFF
Smooth Biomes: OFF

> Performance: (everything off except Fast Math)
Keep every toggle off/to it's lowest point except the one listed above.
> Animations: All OFF
Animations aren't needed, so click the option that says All OFF since it saves time. There's no need to do it manually.
> Other: (keep everything the way it is except Fullscreen Mode)
If you want the best framerate possible, don't touch any options on this page except Fullscreen Mode. Read the list below. WARNING: Applying this step makes your game look a lot more pixelated, and results in a huge loss in quality. Please do this at your own risk if you are aware of the consequences!

• If your monitor has a 4:3 aspect-ratio (screen resolutions include 640x480, 800x600, 960x720, 1024x768, 1280x960, 1440x1050, 1440x1080, 1600x1200, 1856x1392, 1920x1440, and 2048x1536), then set '640x480' as the resolution for Fullscreen Mode.
• If your monitor has a 16:10 aspect-ratio (screen resolutions include 1280x800, 1440x900, 1680x1050, 1920x1200, and 2560x1600), then set '1280x800' as the resolution for Fullcreen Mode.
• If your monitor has a 16:9 aspect-ratio (screen resolutions include 1280x720, 1366x768, 1600x900, 1920x1080, 2560x1440, 3840x2160, and 7680x4320), then set '1280x720' as the resolution for Fullscreen Mode.

5 - Use a client
Clients help improve your FPS and ping. Ping is a key aspect in Minecraft as well because the lower it is, the better connection is received in-game. No matter how smooth your game runs FPS wise, if the connection isn't received properly during the process, then it's a bad sign.

6 -
Disable mods you don't need
Mods are extremely useful and give many different advantages in-game. But, when launching Minecraft, they have to launch at the same time as well. They do affect your framerate sometimes, so disable as many mods that you rarely or never use.

--------

This took me a while to type, so hopefully this has helped you out in some way. I think I've explained everything fairly well. But, if you still have any questions, feel free to leave them below. This is so I can update this often to make everything precise, correct, and as helpful as possible. Thank you so much!
