Hello! Mob hoppers or mob hopper chests are used instead of messy and unreliable water - collection system. You can use a mob hopper by placing it. After a while, once a mob dies in that specific chunk that the mob hopper is placed in, the hopper will fill. The mob hopper chest is almost the same thing - with a little twist - it's often used to pick up directly the drops from the chunk. I, personally, think that a mob hopper chest is more efficient since it directly picks up items instead of feeding them to a chest. Using a mob hopper could often result in overflowing.
