Farming Normal Crops

I want to raise my level on Herbalism and I cant do it faster because crops that are 5 blocks away from me is not growing is it a bug or its normal in the server?

Increase your Render distance.
And FOV.
I use 90 fov
20 chunks render distance!

Fov does nothing. Just get closer to some crops and make sure there is light (torches)

When you increase your field of view, you don't need to always turn to see what's going on in the sides.
