It frequently causes arguments online with memes for and against pineapple as a topping shared almost every day. In these extraordinary times we're experiencing, some memes have even suggested that if 2020 was a pizza, it would have pineapple on it.

Love it or hate it?
Our opinions on potential friends, film stars and sportspeople are regularly formed using the pineapple on pizza method, and it's even sparked debate among colleagues on Blue Peter.
But why is it so controversial and where did it even come from? BBC Bitesize grabs a slice of the action.

The origin of the Hawaiian​

The modern pizza we know today evolved from dishes created in Naples, Italy in the 18th and 19th Centuries.
Italians take their pizza very seriously, particularly in Naples, where the local pizza received traditional speciality guaranteed status by the EU in 2009, protecting the original pizza base recipe and its production methods against misuse or falsification.
But the Hawaiian pizza, topped with ham and pineapple, was not an Italian invention.
And despite the name, it did not come from the US island state of Hawaii either.
The pizza was actually created in Canada in 1962 by a Greek immigrant called Sam Panopoulos.
Panopoulos, along with his brothers, owned a restaurant in the province of Ontario. The food was initially very simple - traditional diner dishes such as pancakes and burgers. Inspired by a recent trip to Naples, Panopoulos decided to introduce pizza to the menu.
It was a relatively new dish in North America and at the time, most of them they served were topped with mushrooms, bacon or pepperoni. Panopoulos did the same, but as he became more adventurous with other dishes, introducing Americanised versions of Chinese meals such as sweet and sour chicken, which also includes pineapple, he decided to take a risk with his pizzas as well.
He added canned pineapple to one pizza, with ham – not knowing whether it would be a hit or not, but soon found the combination of sweet and savoury was proving a winner with his customers.
But why? One possible reason is the growing fascination at the time with Tiki culture. Hawaii had officially become an American state in 1959 and people had fallen in love with the island lifestyle. Canned pineapple began to be imported into North America, along with pineapple juice - providing Panopoulos with his crucial ingredient.
As for the name, the brand of tinned pineapple was called Hawaiian, so Panopoulos’ invention was named in its honour.

Hawaiian hatred​

From its humble Canadian beginnings, the combination spread across North America, and ultimately the world - but despite its global appeal, pineapple pizza has remained controversial.
A 2017 YouGov poll found that 82% of people surveyed liked pineapple, but only 53% liked the fruit on their pizza. 12% of people said they disliked it on pizza a little bit while 29% said they hated the idea.

One of the main arguments is that pineapple breaks with tradition – that fruit, tomato aside, has no place on a pizza.
Gudni Thorlacius Johannesson, president of Iceland, caused a minor international incident when he joked with school pupils that, given the chance, he would ban pineapple on pizza.
It led to Hawaiian pizzas being sent to the Icelandic Embassy in London and Justin Trudeau, prime minister of Canada, passionately defended his country’s culinary contribution in a tweet.

But why?​

Master pizzaiolo (pizza chef) Franco Pepe owns a restaurant in Caiazzo, north of Naples. He’s been named the best pizza maker in the world on multiple occasions - but hasn't shied away from using pineapple as a topping, winning an award for his take on the controversial pizza.
Speaking to food website La Cucina Italiana, Pepe said he thought the reason many were against pineapple was because it clashed too much with the base sauce.
“The combinations were probably too risky: the pineapple was combined with tomato!
“Double acidity, which invariably resulted in a weak taste and poor digestibility. In addition, the pineapples were from cans, pre-cooked under syrup with a huge addition of other sugars.”
Pepe’s critically acclaimed pineapple pizza uses fresh fruit and serves it cold, wrapped in prosciutto ham – an approach that he says allows the natural taste of the pineapple to shine through.
But despite his fine dining take on the Hawaiian, the standard tinned fruit option remains incredibly popular.
Hawaiian fans say they like the combination of sweet and savoury flavours – a trend that has become fairly common on menus in recent years thanks to things like salted caramel.
And who hasn’t been to a child’s birthday party where pineapple and cheese chunks on sticks were served?
But in the end, it comes down to personal choice – a point referenced by Icelandic President Johannesson, who said: “As much as I do not like pineapple on pizza, the individual freedom of having the topping of your choice overrides that.”
And with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson openly admitting that pineapple on pizza is his preferred choice, who is to argue? Love it or hate it, Hawaiian pizza is here to stay.

This looks very professionally written, but just by reading the title (I am not going to read this whole article.) i can tell you that in fact it is not acceptable. No person who is regular/normal would ever add pineapple to there pizza.

Another year awaits, filled with amazing new content & updates here at JartexNetwork. To kick off the new year we will be launching another season of Immortal Factions.

We feel like Immortal Factions is currently in a good state, it's competitive, we have plenty of features and we do not want to risk making any crazy changes to lose this stability. So we have listened closely to community feedback and added some small features to improve the existing gameplay.

We happily and proudly announce that the official new Immortal Faction's season will be launching on Saturday, February 5th 2022
It will begin with a one-week grace period, after which a map lasting 7 weeks will begin.

To celebrate the end of the season, we will be hosting an end-of-season event. At around 4 days before the release, we will be placing reset signs at spawn which you can click and claim a number of rewards; Free items, Free gkits, millions of in-game money, tons of free experience to level up your overpowered armor. Everyone will be able to finish their rank-ups because you can get everything for free. You can fight with everyone without the fear of losing the gear you have spent weeks gathering. So clearly this is the event everyone should participate in! Hop on Immortal Factions and have fun!​

Payouts have returned to Immortal Factions! ​

This new season of factions we will have biweekly payouts for the top factions! This will go on until the end of the season which will last exactly 7 weeks or 49 days. Our schedule for the start and the end of the map is pretty defined, and we will be hosting an end-of-the-map payout as well ending the 26th of March 2022, 8PM CET.​

End of the season payout​

• First place: 350 USD PayPal Money + €500 worth of iron currency.
• Second place: 150 USD PayPal Money + €350 worth of iron currency.
• Third place: €250 worth of iron currency.

Bi-weekly payouts​

• First place: $75 worth of iron currency.

New! Spawn​

​

A new season means a brand new spawn. It is time to say goodbye to the cozy December days, and blast open this new spawn with dynamite. The spawn is filled with features that you can explore, those following features are:​

A new spawn with a nice wild-west theme.​

The spawn contains multiple KOTHs again.​

Looking for some help? There are plenty of NPCs explaining all the features.​

The Jartex Drops make their return after being gone for the December month, but this season is filled with new rewards.​

A new seasonal crate has been added again.​

The worlds will also receive a change each season, we will be having a total of 20 corners with 5 worlds, those worlds are​

Over World (/spawn)​

The border for the overworld will be 10,000 x 10,000 (-5,000 to 5,000) - The spawn is located in the middle.​

1,000 x 1,000 warzone. Koths will be located at each side of /spawn close to it.​

​

The End (/warp end)​

The border for the end world will be 10,000 x 10,000 (-5,000 to 5,000) - The warp is located in the middle.​

Flat sandstone will be placed from Y:1 to Y:30.​

This warp counts with 1 KOTH.​

Roman World (/warp roman)​

The border for the pirate world will be 7,500 x 7,500 (-3,750 to 3,750) - The warp is located in the middle.​

Flat sandstone will be placed from Y:1 to Y:30.​

This warp counts with 1 KOTH.​

Space World (/warp space)​

The border for the space world will be 7,500 x 7,500 (-3,750 to 3,750) - The warp is located in the middle.​

New! Server Jar​

Cannoning is the most important aspect for the Factions Immortal server, so we decided for this season to update our server jar to further improve the cannoning experience. For those who do not know what a server jar is; A server jar is software that the server is running on. This new jar will optimize the cannoning logic and as a result, more cannons will work more smoothly.​

New! Item Flip​

​

It is time to gamble. Are you willing to risk it all? To make things more exciting this season we decided to add back an old known feature, the Item Flip.​

We fixed the issues we had with it in the past and it's ready to make its return.​

​

Item Flip (/itemflip)​

With the /itemflip you will be able to wager your most worthy item. Select the item you want to put in, pick a side, and wait for someone to accept your bet of that same item.​

Will you risk your faction's most valuable items? We will not tell them when you lost them, it will be our secret!​

​

​

New! Sand Wand​

​

The sand wand will make things easier for you to clean up. A sand wand works like any other wand and has a limited amount of uses.​

​

What is a sand wand and how to use it?​

To use a sand wand, simply click a sand pillar in your faction claims and it will instantly clear out a full pillar. This feature has been suggested by the community and we think it's something that will make your faction experience a bit easier and more maintainable.​

​

New! Harvester Hoes​

​

A harvester hoe is an essential tool that you get in the starter kit. For this season we decided to expand upon these tools and added some more variants to them, as well as adding a total of 5 levels that you can earn with it. So level up your trusty harvester hoe and get started with the grace grind.​

​

Normal Harvester Hoe​

Items go straight into your inventory.​

Frenzy Harvester Hoe​

Items go straight into your inventory.​

10% Chance (per level) to double the loot per hoe level.​

Golden Harvester Hoe​

Items go straight into your inventory.​

10% Chance (per level) to automatically sell the harvested loot in the /shop for x2.5 the price.​

Shopping Harvester Hoe​

Automatically sell the harvested loot in the /shop.​

New! Mob Mastery​

​

A new rewarding system for grinding mobs. Every 5,000 Mob Kills you receive a Mob Point that you can use for Mob Mastery.​

You can select a specific type of upgrade and upgrade them with Mob Points. With each upgrade, the loot you get from Mobs becomes better.​

The following 3 mob masteries have been added for this release:​

Upgrade 1 (3 Mob Points): 3.5% Chance to drop loot x3​

New! Mob Suits​

Making grinding a less hideous task is something we are always in favor of. So we decided it is time to implement our known Mob Suits to Factions Immortal.​

What are Mob Suits?​

Mob Suits are suits that you can unlock to boost the grinding of a specific mob. For example, if I am wearing a Blaze Suit, and I am killing blazes I will earn an extra boost depending on the level of my mob suit.​

​

How to get a Mob Suit?​

Simple, each mob suit costs 250 heads of that mob, and you can purchase them in the /mobsuits menu.​

​

How to level up a Mob Suit?​

You can level up a mob suit by right-clicking the suit head. This will open up the upgrade menu. To upgrade levels you will need an x amount of experience and an x amount of mob kills of that mob while wearing the suit. These amounts get higher the more levels you get. But the more levels you unlock the better the rewards.​

​

New! Community Milestones​

This season we will be introducing a whole new feature as well, this feature is called the Community Milestones.​

A community milestone is a goal that has to be reached by the whole server, you can see this as a global mission where all players participate.​

​

Once the milestone has been completed a reward will be given to all online players.​

Make sure to link your Discord account in order to receive those rewards.​

​

After the milestone has been done, and the rewards have been given out, a new milestone will automatically start. Each milestone has a different time to complete, different rewards, and different tasks to do.​

Updated! Faction Shop​

​

Currently, in the factions shop, you can only buy spawners, pickaxes, chunkbusters, and throwable creepers, and they are only buyable with faction tokens. And some of these items are not worth buying with tokens, so we decided to add the ability to purchase it with faction money, and added new items.​

Purchase items with faction money​

We will be adding the option to purchase some items with Faction Money, this money will be used from the Faction Bank.​

New Items​

Sandbots, Special Armor sets, and boosters have been added to the faction shop, this makes it a bit easier to obtain these needed items. You can now also purchase TNT from the faction shop, and it will directly go into your faction TNT storage.​

​

Updated the GUI​

The GUI has been updated to match our current modern standard.​

​

Updated! Skills​

​

We have fixed some balancing issues regarding skills and tweaked some of the buffs the skills give. This includes Swords, Axes & Archery skills.​

The banker skill has also been fully fixed and enabled again for this season.​

​

​

Updated! Faction Roam​

​

Last season we introduced faction roam, but we encountered some issues with it so we were quick to disable it again. For this season we are happy to announce that the issues with roaming have been fixed, as well as some needed minor changes have been implemented.​

Roaming in warzones​

Before you had no risk of entering the roaming mode, you would fully disappear. This season that will be changed. Upon entering roaming mode an NPC with your name will be left behind. Players can hit this NPC causing you to exit roaming mode and teleport back to that NPCs location. You will also instantly be in combat so there is no time for you to log out when this happens.​

Updated! Player Levels​

​

We will be adding Premium Rewards. These rewards can be unlocked by purchasing the expansion for the player levels. With this feature unlocked, you will receive even more rewards. But don't worry, even after completing the levels you can still unlock this and claim the rewards that you haven't claimed yet.​

The player levels have also been tweaked:​

• Changed some tasks to make it more faction-themed.
• Buffed rewards the higher levels you go.

​

Misc. Updates & Changes​

Multiple small changes have been made, some of these small changes are the following:​

• Updated the faction rules
• Updated all plugins
• Fixed f-alts being kicked randomly
• Fixed scoreboard placeholders
• Added voucher confirmations
• Fixed permanent rank vouchers being able to overwrite seasonal ones
• Improved phase checks & fixed false phase kicks

Why did Factions Immortal reset?​

​

Factions just needed a reset, it wasn't updated for weeks so to make factions work again was a reset required. So here it is a fresh new factions with updates!​

​

This means all claims, items, money and the map will be reset. Nothing will be kept leftover from the previous map. Of course, all purchases will be reissued so nobody will be out of pocket in that regard. I know this must be a disappointing revelation for a lot of you, but think about the exciting new changes, the new alliances you can forge, the new map, the new features, and updates the different kinds of gameplay and style being provided with this update will surely make it a worth-while and exciting reset!​
