Everything That We Know So Far About Minecraft 1.20

What is Minecraft 1.20?​

Mojang Studios has recently announced their upcoming update to their hit multiplayer sandbox game, Minecraft, during the Minecraft Live 2022 event. Players are always excited for new updates as Mojang Studios has never disappointed to add mind-blowing blocks, biomes, mobs, and a plethora of other features throughout the past decade. We have organized and listed everything that was unveiled during the event about the Minecraft 1.20 below. ​

A New Desert Mob​

The "ships of the desert" are being implemented into Minecraft through the next update. Camels will be passive mobs that can be found in desert biomes. For nomad Minecraft players, camels will be an excellent source of transportation as they will be able to swim through rivers and even carry a friend in the back. In addition, due to the camel's height, husks will not be able to directly attack players who are riding camels. The desert biome has widely been known as the most boring biome in Minecraft, but we can see that Mojang Studios is slowly giving updates to it through the addition of the camel. ​

The Winner of The Minecraft Mob Vote 2022​

Aforementioned, all of the information about the Minecraft 1.20 update has been presented during the Minecraft Live 2022 event. Mojang Studios annually hosts the Minecraft Mob Vote during these events, where players can vote for a brand new mob to be added into the next update. The following mobs were candidates for this year's Minecraft Mob Vote:​

1. Sniffer → Sniffers can be found in the Underwater Ruins inside of their ancient eggs. By bringing the eggs to the surface, the eggs will hatch to become Sniffers. They can dig into the ground to find seeds, which will definitely boost farming features in the game.
2. Rascal → Rascals can be found in mines, where they love to play hide-and-seek. If players find the Rascal a total of three times, they will be given mining-related rewards, which have not been disclosed yet.
3. Tuff Golem → Tuff Golems cannot do much compared to the other two mobs featured above. They are essentially living statues that can walk around and hold items. Just like Snow and Iron Golems, players can build Tuff Golems by placing blocks in a specific pattern.

After a landslide victory, the Sniffer has been confirmed to be the latest fan-voted mob to be introduced into Minecraft 1.20. During the introduction of the Sniffer, Mojang Studios has hinted that the Sniffer will bring new plants into the game, which may have been the largest reason why it was a fan favorite.​

New Jungle Blocks​

Mojang Studios is also giving an update to its jungle biome, adding new blocks that can be created by bamboo. Other than being the fastest growing plant, the panda's favorite meal, and the main ingredient for scaffolding, bamboo has not been the most useful block for players. However, this may change after the update:​

1. Bamboo Blocks → Bamboo can be crafted into blocks, slabs, stairs, fences, and any other form. We are speculating that it will become an alternative for wood and an excellent block choice for shelter in the jungles.
2. Chiseled Bookshelf → After a decade since its introduction to the game, we will finally be able to use bookshelves to store books. The chiseled bookshelf will be craft-able with bamboo and utilized to store written books.
3. Bamboo Raft → Bamboo rafts will be alternatives to the traditional wooden boats.

From images provided by Mojang Studios, the bamboo blocks do not seem to be a visually appealing block, but it will definitely be useful for those who are looking to settle in the jungles and bring out the "jungle vibes."​

Minecraft 1.20 will introduce 7 new default player skins. These new skins have been designed to diversify its default lineup for the game's hundreds of millions of players around the world. In society where individual identity is very important, Mojang Studios has done an excellent job to implement such a feature for the next update. Although their names have not been revealed, this is a sigh of relief for those who found it difficult to design their own skins. ​

Minecraft 1.20 Release Date​

Unforunately, the full launch date has not been covered during the Minecraft Live 2022 event. However, Mojang Studios has stated that the first snapshot will be available "in a few days" from the event date, meaning that players will be given unofficial first-hand experience very soon. Speculations state that the full release will be in January of 2023, but we are yet to hear an official date. We will constantly update this article if such updates are given to the public.​
