You should try to get stacked like yanique said. The more and more powerful enchants you have on your gear the more efficient you can farm mobs

You could kill the whole stack instantly by using Mob Sweep I-X.

KenExtreme to answer your question, there are many factors at play that effect how once grinds.

1. Your Ping is the main factor while grinding mobs and casual gameplay.
2. There are techniques where you can grind faster. For example, I make sure to grind the mob in a corner and I am inside the mob killing it. If you were normally grinding lets say you were grinding a mob that is in front of you. You can notice that while you are killing that certain mob, it is moving either back or forth once you slay it. That is because it is not in a corner to stop it from moving and can slow down the process of killing more mobs.
3. There are special enchants such as MobSlayer in SBD. You will have a very rare chance of killing all the stacked mobs while using that custom enchant. You will get all the exp if its normal and if it its an epic mob you will get both stars and exp.

use mob sweep and an op sword with like sharp and fire aspect anything but mobsweep is the best for killing stacks of mobs
