How do I make it where more people can join my island

I currently have 4 people including me on my friends island but we have 2 more people who we want to play with. I don’t know if there is a rule where you can’t have more than 4, but I have heard you need to purchase something to add more people. Please help thanks!

To allow more people to join your island, you would need to buy the 'Island Member Upgrade' upgrade on the '/is' upgrade menu. You can also upgrade your island members by the Island Member Upgrade' voucher which is sold at times by people with high level islands.
