How Crop Hopper Chest / Crop Chest Works

the update says that crop chest / crop hopper chest can automatically collect crops within 1 chunk i've tried dropping crops near the crop hopper chest but it doesn't collect the crops,,, do they need something to works? please explain cuzz there is no explanation about crops chest at all

f3 + G to see chunck, you just place mob or crop chest in side of chunck. crop hoppers or chest same, but put next to mob or crop. like 16 blocks. if y put far away dont work of course.
But y only need chests, hoppers i only use simple. Chest i use mob chest with no hoppers
