If you're playing normal mode instead of EXTREME MODE it will be easier to kill hackers. Winning against a hacker with protection 3 diamond armor is quite difficult. In normal mode it is a lot easier to win against a hacker considering you have to just suprise them and win.

In my opinion, extreme mode is easier since you can get bunny boots that let you escape from most hackers, and also supply drops exist with notch apples or protection 4 gear.
